This is a very convenient solution, especially when dealing with unusual wall thicknesses, such as in old-style buildings. Adjustable masking bands “embrace” the wall on two sides giving an elegant visual effect. Fixed door frames do not have bands, so additional decorative strips are usually used during installation to cover the places where they connect to the wall. Adjustable frames are easier to install, have a wider range of applications and guarantee an attractive finish without the use of additional elements. However, there are places where fixed-width door frames will work better. This applies primarily to small rooms, where a massive door frame may prove too heavy. In that case, a fixed door frame will look more favorable, which can possibly be enriched with delicate slats or quarter rounds. There are also situations in which it is technically impossible to install an adjustable frame due to the location of the door at the junction of perpendicular walls, where the masking bands will not fit.
